Kirkburton should have got their West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division points but were beaten 3-2 at Lower Hopton who were saved by a second half hat trick from Lincoln Adams.

Burton could have scored in the first minute, a long throw from the player-manager Richard Kettlewell pinging around like a pinball machine in the penalty area but Adam Daffern had the final shot blocked.

Impressive signing Callum Richardson also then had a shot blocked before Kirkburton had a claim for a penalty turned down by referee Colin Woods after a defender had blocked the run of Matthew Crookes.

Burton got their reward in the 13th minute when Kettlewell sent in a free kick to captain Steve Chandler who turned the defender and slotted into the bottom corner.

Lower Hopton’s first chance came in the 25th minute when Lincoln Adams put a cross in for Kyle Douglas but he put a free header wide.

Burton took a 2-0 lead in the 30th minute after Kettlewell won the ball which went out to Crookes who slipped the ball underneath Clarke in the Hopton goal.

Hopton came close with a clearance off the line by Steve Chandler and then a fine save by Jack Peacock in the Burton goal, but the score remained 2-0 at half-time.

Burton had to make an early substitution in the second half with Johnny Butterfield having to come off with a knee injury and he was replaced by Richard Shooter.

With 25 minutes to go Hopton pushed Adams up front and the Burton defence was struggling to cope with his presence, and he scored his first of three when he out jumped the Burton defence to head home.

Burton had two more chances to score in the 80th and 81st minutes with Daffern shooting just wide and Crookes having a shot cleared off the line.

Hopton then got the equaliser in the 84th minute with a long ball over the top where Adams was on hand to lob the out coming Peacock.

Burton had another chance in the 90th minute with a great cross into the area by Crookes were Richardson’s header went just over the bar.

Hopton pinched the points four minutes into time added when a free-kick was launched into the area for Adams to rise above the Burton defence to head home for the winner.
