HARTSHEAD rider Abby-Mae Parkinson has won the Under 16 girl’s Cyclo-Cross National Trophy Series title.

In the last round of the series, in Derby, RST rider Parkinson made an excellent and determined start as she powered her way around the first lap and by the halfway mark it was a battle between just her and rival Charlotte Broughton (MG Décor).

In the final lap they were well clear of the field and so close it finished in an awesome sprint to the line where Parkinson was edged into second place.

However, she secured the series title with 218 points, with Holme Valley Wheelers’ rider Amira Mellor, who finished a gutsy third on the day and was runner-up in the series with 188 points.

In the Junior Male category Mirfield rider Jake Womersley (Sportscover) finished in fourth place on the day to seal third position in the series behind Billy Harding (Paul Milnes/Bradford Olympic RC) in second and Jack Ravenscroft (Solihull), who took the title.

In the Women’s category Louise Robinson (Isla Bikes) sealed her series victory with another fine display of tactical and powerful riding, taking 2nd place on the day to Annie Last (Trek Factory Racing).

In the third meeting of the Revolution (39) series at the Manchester Velodrome former Holme Valley rider Ed Clancy was again in sparkling form as he ensured Rapha Condor JLT maintained their series lead with just one more meeting to go.

The last of 12 riders to do the flying lap, Clancy had the packed arena electrified as he took the win by 0.4 of a second in 13.160 from Ross Edgar (Team IG Sigma Sport) on 13.541 and Marcel Kalz (Rudy Project RT) on 13.798.

Then in the Elimination (Devil Take The Hindmost) Clancy tantalised the audience by sailing too close to the back of the bunch on a few occasions before delivering a blistering sprint in the final lap to leave Frenchman Franco Marvulli (Howies) accepting defeat 100 metres before the finish.

Rapha Condor JLT now seem certain to take the series title at next month’s final meeting in Glasgow.

In the male Future Stars category local riders Gabz Cullaigh and Levi Moody were in the thick of the action in all three races as they worked to keep Moody wearing the series leader’s yellow jersey.

Cullaigh set the 20 lap Scratch race alight with a well-timed attack that split the field just four laps from the finish.

Despite establishing a 100 metre lead the peloton brought him back and in the bunch sprint to the line Moody finished fifth and Cullaigh seventh.

From the outset of the six-lap Dash Cullaigh lead out Moody to launch him into the lead in the final lap.

However, six riders remembered their modus operandi from the last meeting and went with them into a blistering sprint for almost a full lap to the finish line. Moody finished fourth with rapidly improving sprinter Tom Rotherham (Sportcity) taking the win.

In the 20-lap Points race Cullaigh and Moody again set the pace.

Moody attacked in the early sprints to pick up a total of eight points, while Cullaigh left it late to launch his electrifying attack to take five comfortable points in the last sprint – Moody finished second overall and Cullaigh third.

Moody still leads the series going into the last meeting next month.

Earlier in the day the Future Stars Madison race saw Cullaigh partnering RST teammate Joey Walker, and Moody with Sean Noon riding for Sportscover.

Despite not having ridden together competitively before both pairs put on a fine display of disciplined and tactical riding: Moody and Noon finishing second, while Cullaigh and Walker were third.
