There were plenty of medals for Holmfirth Harriers Veterans teams at the YVAA Road Relay Championships at Robert’s Park, Saltaire.

There were gold finishes for the F55+ and M50-59, a silver medal for the F35-44 and a third place finish in the F45-54.

The M40-49 also came close with fourth in their section and M60-69 team were seventh.

There were also strong individual performances from the fastest of the day in Harriers’ Dave Watson, while Harriers’ slowest Den Kersey still knocked two minutes off his time from the previous year.

Watson made his intentions clear moving rapidly into the lead at the start of the M40-49 race to lead by 17 seconds at the end of the first leg, his time 14.19.

Brandon Holroyd (16.47, Gary Graham (17.04) and, on the final leg, Jonathan King (17.05) to take fourth place.

The M50-59 team also got off to a cracking start with Julian Rose (15.26) setting the pace, John Ewart took over and Jonny Sykes saw them home 13 seconds ahead.

In the M60-69 race Kevin Yewlett ran the first leg (18.49), followed by Bill Hunter (22.35) and Steve Beardsell (18.49) was on the last leg to finish seventh.

Holmfirth’s ladies have done well in all competitions in recent years and the F35-44, F45-54 and F55+ all won medals.

In the F35-44 Jacqui Khoueiry (17.25), Kath Farquhar (17.01), who ran the second fastest time of the day, and Margaret Sykes (17.30) took silver.

In the F45-54 Julia Johnson (18.00), Helen Pettit (19.23) and Jean Shotter (22.25) took third and the F55+ event saw Lesley Ewart (19.02) hand on to Barbara Hinchliffe – the pair both returning from injury – before Den Kersey (26.47) brought them home first.

The next team event is the YVAA Cross Country Relays at Graves Park, Sheffield.
