Holmfirth athlete Katie Walshaw heads to Poland tomorrow as part of the Great Britain team contesting the 2013 World Mountain Running Championships.

Walshaw, who has become a regular in the England Fell and Mountain Running team in recent years, secured her place in the Great Britain squad after an excellent fourth-place finish in the trials held in the Lake District.

Walshaw (right) represented Great Britain in the 2012 European Mountain Championships in Turkey, where she finished in 10th position and won team gold, and has a enjoyed a great summer racing on the fells.

Highlights have been first place in the 10k event at the world Trail Running championship in North Wales in the colours of England, a second in the Karrimor Trail in the Lake District in the Yorkshire vest and third place in the Fell Inter-counties Race in Settle, also in the colours of the White Rose.

“Going to the World Championships has been my target since the start of the year,” said Walshaw.

“I am really excited to have achieved this.”

Walshaw will race on Sunday over a 9km course with over 500m of ascent in the Jaworzyna Mountains of southern Poland.
