MATTHEW Peaker won his eighth May Gray Trophy title and secured a hat trick of consecutive wins in the competition.

Peaker became only the second player to notch a hat trick following on from Julian Hodge who won in 1988, 1989 and 1990.

However, it needed a strong performance from Peaker in the finals at Brockholes BC as Peaker had to haul back significant handicaps in both the last four and final.

In the semi-finals Brockholes player Peaker faced New North Road’s Chris Bintcliffe, giving away 100 on handicap, but a 45 break was followed by three breaks of 30 to see him through with a 32 points win.

In the other semi New North Road teammates Roger Singleton and Greg Leach faced each other and Leach managed to pull back the 354 points he conceded on handicap to tie the match at 174 each.

However, Singleton chipped away and managed to win the last four clash by 11 points.

Peaker was giving away 205 points in the final but after a 73 break on his second visit to the table and 48 on his fifth he was rapidly clawing back the deficit.

He went on to add breaks of 72 and 47 to run out the winner by 200-132.
