Carrie Wagstaff from Batley capped an excellent Sellers International Huddersfield Open tennis tournament by carrying off two titles.
She played solidly throughout to beat Lancashire’s Lauren Banks 6-2 6-4 in the ladies singles final at Huddersfield Lawn Tennis & Squash Club’s Edgerton base.
And then she teamed up with Batley clubmate Harry Wood to win the mixed doubles, beating Andy Smith and Kate Mallin, of host club Huddersfield in the final.
Luke Johnson, the No1 seed from Leeds, also took two titles.
In the men’s singles final, he beat Huddersfield’s defending champion and No3 seed Mike Tolman 6-3 6-3.
Then the two of them paired up to win the men’s doubles 6-4 6-0 against Ben Kirk and James Wetton.
“Coming off the back of a terrific Wimbledon, we couldn’t have had a better tournament,” said Huddersfield head coach Becky Lee.
“It’s definitely been one of the best Sellers we’ve staged and we’ve had massive entries in all the younger age groups, which is just fantastic.
“The event has run smoothly, too, the weather has been incredible and the players have been tremendous – so it couldn’t have gone any better.”
