Andrew Atkinson won the Under 18 boys title the Thongsbridge Junior Open.

Atkinson stormed through the competition, beating his opponents convincingly to claim his winners’ medal.

Holly Horsfall followed Atkinson’s great performance as she was victorious in the Under 18s girls event after a couple of tough matches.

Emily Young won her first match in the Under 16s, but was eliminated by the eventual winner.

Christopher Turnton also won his first match in the Under-16s boys before he was eliminated, but Barney Fitzpatrick went from having played the semi-finals in the Under 14s to make it all the way to the final in the Under 16s – eliminating the No3 seed along the way.

In the girls Under 14s Lucy Margetson won her first match before going out, while in the boys Under 12s Oliver Vesely made it to the semi-finals but fell short of a spot in the final.

The girls Under 12 event saw Orla Cooper go out in the quarter-finals following a win in her first match, while Gabriella Lindley made the final in the Under 10s event, but she failed to take the winners trophy. Alexander Tikhonov played some great tennis, but crashed out in the quarter-finals, and Owen Lodge had an impressive showing in the Under 9 mini boys’ event and made the final, but despite putting up a valiant effort, the tough three-set match proved a bit too much.

The Under 8 mini boys’ event saw Louis Hull and Zak Lloyd deliver great performances, both narrowly missing out on a spot in the final.

The doubles’ event saw Lucy and Charlotte Margetson lose out in the finals of the Under 14 girls event, while Barney Fitzpatrick and Ben Davies also made it all the way to the final in the boys Under 14 event, but they too had to concede victory.

Holly Horsfall continued her wonderful form winning the Under 18s women doubles alongside Megan Pollick, as they defeated Emily Young and Alice Copland in the final.

Despite winning in the singles’ competition, Andrew Atkinson could only make it to the semi-finals alongside Isaac Ezro in the mens Under 18 event.

A number of Thongsbridge players competed in a tournament in Liverpool.

Owen Lodge and Esa Butt qualified for the Under 9 event, and both won their first rounds in the main draw.

Rory Bryant and Joshua Fowler also won matches in the qualifying rounds.

Lucy Newman and Ellie Horner also entered the girls event, and despite a fantastic effort and some great tennis, both fell to their opponents.

In the Under 10 boys Roman Khela, Dan Lloyd, Alexander Tikhonov, Manny Hesmondhalgh and Dominic Vesely all won their first round matches.

Khela made the semi-finals where he was beaten by Tikhonov, while Hesmondhalgh and Vesely also met in the semi-finals, where Vesely came out the stronger player.

In the final Vesely played a great game to beat Tikhonov 4-2, 4-1.

Georgia Draper, Orla Cooper and Oliver Vesely all travelled down to Bath with head coach Nick Fitzpatrick for a Grade Two Under 12 Winter National Tour.

Both Draper and Cooper were in qualifiers and both players won their first round matches, but narrowly missed out on qualifying after losing their final qualifying match.

Vesely made the main draw of the event after winning both of his qualifying matches, but then lost in his first round of the main draw.

Chloe Chawner played in a Grade 2 qualifying in Gosling and she won her first match of her group, but then lost out in a third set tie-break and so narrowly missed making the main draw.

At the beginning of the month Andrew Atkinson, Holly Horsfall and Barney Fitzpatrick competed in Grade One events at the National Tennis Centre, where in order to qualify you must be top 16 in the country.

They all played well to win rounds in their age groups, Horsfall won the consolation draw in the Under 18 girls, Atkinson was runner-up in the consolation draw of the Under 18 boys and Fitzpatrick won his first round of the Under 14 boys and then lost to the No2 in Europe.
