LOWHILLS Angling Club president Stephen Svejnoha concludes his round-up of last season’s major competitions in the last of his series of reports on Hoyle Ings members’ matches.
Swillington – Carp Ponds: An easy venue to get to, 20 minutes down the M62 East – this is a carp-dominated pond.
Halifax-based Dale Adams took a good weight off the stump peg. When an angler as good as Dale draws a good peg, everybody else is fishing for second. He fished meat and pellet at 11 metres.
Paul Lavery (Slavs) fished a peg nearby on meat at 10 metres, for a decent weight of carp.
Slavs discovered he had to feed lighter to keep fish interested.
Results: 1 Dale Adams 67lbs 10oz, 2 Paul Lavery 52lbs 10oz, 3 Kevin Griffiths 47lbs 2oz.
Birkwood Farm – Stanley, Nr Wakefield: Not having fished the venue since April we were all hoping for some action. Unfortunately it never happened.
Peg 11 had been the “hot peg” for most of the year and today was no exception. Take nothing away from the winner Simon Raper, he still had to feed and present his bait correctly to grab the honours. His catch was all small carp.
Agonisingly only one ounce behind was that man Paul Lavery again.
Results: 1 Simon Raper 24lbs 3oz, 2 P Lavery 24lbs 2oz, 3 Bob Haigh 18lbs 3oz.
Section Winners: Dave Lambert 16lbs 8oz, Stephen Svejnoha 15lbs 10oz.
Carp – Risby Walkington: Our second trip to Risby, this time to fish the Carp Lake.
A nice autumn day with Simon Raper making it two wins on the trot. He drew Peg 7 and took small carp, ide and roach on caster and worm at 11 metre range.
Second placed Christopher Slater drew Peg 26.
One of the most consistent match anglers in the Huddersfield area Chris had just six bites. Fishing pole fished meat at 12 metres, he landed four nice carp.
Results: 1 Simon Raper 25lbs 0oz, 2 Christopher Slater 21lbs 15oz, 3 Keith Henighan 20lbs 0oz.
Section Winners: Bob Haigh 20lbs 4oz, Kevin Griffiths 14lbs 7oz.
Westwoodside Farm - Nr Wroot: A first visit to this water for Hoyle Ings. A nice venue, an awful lot of Ide in the fishery in the four to six ounce bracket.
There are the obvious carp and some big bream in the 4lb to 6lb bracket. We have booked the water for a match on September 27, 2009.
Neil Edwards caught five carp on bomb and meat to win this match. Second placed Dave Love caught three carp on pole-fished worm and one on bomb and corn.
Results: 1 Neil Edwards 33lbs 12oz, 2 Dave Love 25lbs 4oz, 3 Franek 15lbs 10oz.
Section Winners: Simon Raper 12lbs 10oz, Craig Bainbridge 10lbs 6oz.
At 8pm the same day we all met in the White Horse Inn at Rastrick.
There we had a presentation evening with up to three prizes for every angler.
The evening was rounded off with hot beef sandwiches.
Roll on next season and all the best and good fishing for 2009.
