LOWHILLS Angling Club’s latest round of match results are:

Grantley Hall – Macclesfield: There were a lot of fish showing, but unfortunately the carp were spawning.

As most anglers are aware when the fish are in this mood, they don’t feed. Even so the winner had a nice mixed net.

Pole fishing small cubes of meat at seven metres, towards the overhanging trees, Tony Darcy caught crucian, tench, bream and rudd.

Results: 1 Tony Darcy 25lb 6oz, section winner Stephen Svejnoha 12lb 7oz.

Lowhills Pond – Lindley: An evening match was fished in warm, still conditions.

Stephen Svejnoha drew peg 21, and with five minutes remaining had only caught a handful of roach. A nice mirror carp of eight pounds, picked up my bait and Svejnoha was lucky enough to land it, on the call of time I heard a snarl from peg 24.

Results: 1 Stephen Svejnoha 8lb 11½oz, 2 Martin Blagborough 5lb 1oz, 3 Paul Lavery 3lb.

Aston Ponds – Killamarsh: John ‘Silver’ Fisher drew two pegs below the overflow.

Yet again Fisher took the honours. Pole fishing worm and caster at nine metres, ide and skimmers responded for the full five hours, for Fisher to record a fine weight.

Results: 1 John Fisher 46lb 8oz, 2 Martin Blagborough 42lb 6oz, 3 Kevin Griffiths 23lb.

Sally Walsh’s Dam – Wakefield: Warm, wet, windy conditions. We were pegged on the shallows for this match.

Stephen Svejnoha went straight on “tip” throwing groundbait feeder 25 yards, fishing maggot, caster and worm, caught five skimmers and eight ‘razer blades’.

Results:1 Stephen Svejnoha 7lb 7oz, 2 Martin Blagborough 5lb 12oz.

Bradshaw Pond 4 – Bolton: Ice covered half the fishery when we arrived. Two-and-a-half hours into the match nobody had had a fish.

Kevin Griffiths was on known flyer peg 33½.

Griffiths laughed out loud “I’ve got one”, but lifted his pole to show everybody what fish looked like and it dropped off. The fish took one last look at “Griff”, flicked his tail and sank into the murky depths.

He wasn’t to know at the time, but had he landed that one fish he would have won the match and £130. The five prize winners were drawn out of a hat.

Results: 1 Franek Saniuszko (no fish), 2 Dave Lambert (no fish), 3 Martin Blagborough (no fish).

Section winners: Richard Holmes (no fish), John Fisher (no fish).

Pool Bridge – Wheldrake: Fifteen Lowhills anglers made the journey to fish this silver fish only match with 20 locals.

We were all undone by 12-year-old Luke Robinson. Luke pole fished single maggot to catch four crucians, two bream and roach. New Lowhills chairman Franek Staniuszko pole fished caster at 11 metres for an all roach catch.

It is a well run water and in the warmer months produces lovely catches of ide, tench and big ghost koi.

There is an on site cafe and for once not over-priced. Silver fish matches every Sunday until April. To book on ring Mike on 07928 359420.

Results: 1 Luke Robinson 14lb 4oz, 2 Franek Staniuszko 13lb 2oz. Section winner Simon Raper 8lb 6oz.

At the Lowhills annual general meeting Dave Lambert was appointed new club secretary. The committee wish him well for the future.
