LOWHILLS Angling Club president Stephen Svejnoha continues his round-up of last season’s major competitions in the third of his series of articles on Hoyle Ings members’ matches.
Loco Lake - Lindholme: This was a difficult match, warm weather has the carp cruising on the surface. Bob Haigh adopted his “Silver” fish approach to take 13lbs 14oz. Bob polefished maggot and caster. The next two anglers in the frame fished pellet and bomb.
Results: 1 R Haigh 13lbs 14oz, 2 C Wood 9lbs 3oz, 3 M Haigh 8lb 10oz.
Poll Bridge Farm - Whedrake: We fished this match on Normans Lake in bright conditions.
Martin Edwards fished small baits for the first two hours for just two small roach, but a switch to big pellet sorted the carp out to the tune of 59lbs.
Second placed John Fisher had forgotten his small fish baits so attacked the carp off the top. John caught five carp. The best, a lovely Koi of 11lbs.
Results: 1 Martin Edwards 59lbs 0oz, 2 John Fisher 39lbs 8oz, 3 Kevin Griffiths 24lbs 8oz.
Section Winners: Chris Salter 22lbs 4oz, Neil Edwards 21lbs 0oz.
Riverside - nr Bawtry: Things did not look good when we arrived at this venue. There was no movement on the water, and no fish topping in nice conditions.
Colin Wood had to go to the 16 metre mark to take a few small carp for 4lbs 13oz. Very hard fishing.
Results: 1 Colin Wood 4lbs 13oz, 2 Chris Wainhouse 3lbs 9oz, 3 Stephen Svejnoha 3lbs 2oz.
Section winner: Simon Raper 3lbs 2oz, Dave Lambert 1lb 6oz.
Bradshaw Fishery - Nr Bolton: This match was fished on lodge number 2. Kevin Griffiths took a nice mixed bag of carp, tench, crucians and bream for first place, while that man Colin Wood again caught five nice carp for second.
Results: 1 Kevin Griffiths 39lbs 6oz, 2 Colin Wood 22lbs 2oz, 3 Bob Haigh 18lbs 4oz.
Messingham Sands - Nr Scunthorpe: This match was on the Island’s Pond. Conditions were overcast and warm. As reported in previous descriptions on Messingham, the ponds are solid with fish.
Simon Raper drew on the corner of one of the islands and fished bomb and pellet to land nine carp. The problem was he lost 24 carp!
Apparently, one of the other ponds on the complex had been netted to thin the stocks out.
Results: 1 Simon Raper 36lbs 6oz, 2 Stephen Svejnoha 25lbs 2oz, 3 Bob Haigh 22lbs 7oz.
Section Winners: Dave Love 21lbs 0oz, Neil Blacker 16lbs 2oz.
More next Thursday.
