Harriers win

ATHLETICS: Holmfirth Harriers Ladies were rewarded for some terrific performances by winning the team gold at the Snake Lane 10 road race in Pocklington.Margaret Sykes knocked over two minutes off her personal best time. She was third woman home and second F40 in 1hr 2min 59sec, testing herself well on the flat course ahead of the London Marathon.Also in training for that event is Matthew Pierson, and while he’s not 100% fit, he finished fifth in 53min 44sec.Claire Leaver was 14th lady in 1-07-05. Lucy Verrill, while nervous and doubting she could sustain a target pace of seven-minute miles, did exactly that and went under 70 with another fabulous personal best of 1-09-20.Matthew Rose achieved his target in 1-13-39.

Aussies arrive

cricket: Australia pace bowler John Hastings has agreed to join Sussex as their second overseas player for this summer`s Friends Life Twenty20 tournament.Australia A batsman Joe Burns has agreed to join Leicestershire. The Queenslander has been a prolific run-scorer at home.

Grands target

racing: Grands Crus is set to return to the smaller obstacles, with owner Roger Stanley pinpointing next Thursday’s Ladbrokes World Hurdle as his Cheltenham Festival target.The eight-year-old finished second in the race in 2011 before embarking upon a chasing career that has yielded Grade One glory.

Dixon deal

rugby league: London Broncos have rewarded exciting winger Kieran Dixon with a new contract to the end of 2014. The 20-year-old is a product of Hemel Stags.

tennis: Tennis is to introduce an Athlete Biological Passport Programme this year to fight against doping. Top players are backing the move with more testing encouraged at all tournaments.
