LONGWOOD Harrier Andrew Pearson continued his excellent form since returning to competition by winning the Leeds Half Marathon.

The in-form distance man clocked a highly-respectable 67min 46sec to win by over two minutes from the second-placed runner.

In his previous run he posted his fastest time over 10k since his return to the roads, in winning the Rothwell 10k in 30min 35sec.

The quality of his form can be gauged by the fact that in second place Steve Hepples, from the Southern Club Newham and Essex Beagles who had run the third fastest leg in the national relay in April, finished 47sec behind Andrew.

There was also success for Greenhead College student David Dempsey, running for Longwood, who became the Under 20 Yorkshire County 400m hurdles champion at Sheffield, winning in 60.09 seconds.

The 18-year-old athlete is concentrating this year on 400m, having competed at multi events in the last few seasons and the change seems to be a good move bringing him a quick reward.
