HOLMFIRTH Harriers made a sparkling start to the Yorkshire Veterans Multi-terrain Grand Prix Series at Horsforth.

Dave Watson and Margaret Sykes both won two races each, while John Ewart also finished ahead of the field in the M55 category.

Along with the three winners, Holmfirth also boasted third place finishes from James Durrans and Bill Wade.

The next meeting in the series will be at Otley on Sunday, March 4.

In the Yorkshire Veterans Cross Country Championships, Holmfirth had eight individual medal winners.

Helen Berry, Margaret Sykes and Dave Watson all managed wins in their categories, while in the team events Holmfirth had two first places, three seconds and two bronze.

In the team events Berry, Sykes and Debbie Hall were winners in the F35-44 section and, with the other runners, in the age group were second in the F35-44 ‘all to count’ team category.

Julia Johnson, Christine Couch and Yvette Arthur were victorious in the F45-54 team race and with the other runners in the age group were again second in the F45-54 ‘all to count’.

In the F55+ category Lesley Ewart, Jeanette White and Den Kersey were the third team home.

In the men’s section Bill Wade, Tim Cock and Dave Cowgill were second in the M70 team race, while Steve Beardsell, Martin Seddon and Roger Bradley were third in the M60-69 section.
