LONGWOOD’S Andrew Pearson secured his third successive win in the Senior Men’s Race at Thornes Park, Wakefield and in doing so won the overall championship.

Pearson will now aim to complete a clean sweep at the final West Yorkshire CC League meeting at Nun-Royd, Guiseley on December 6.

Pearson was pushed all the way by Jonathan Brownlee, of Bingley Harriers, the current Junior Triathlon Champion, before eventually winning the race by two seconds.

In the junior section the outstanding performer from Lockwood was Charlotte Jarvis, who finished second in the U11s girls race.

Jarvis excelled in her first race for the club at this age group.

Leeds 10k Abbey Dash saw 5,904 people finish the race.

Longwood over 55s Ian Mitchell and Dave Harpin finished 433rd (40.38) and 1662nd (47.42) respectively.

Mark Buckingham roared to victory in the Barnsley 10k, the Holmfirth Harrier beating Leeds’ Darren Bilton by two seconds.

There was a strong entry from Meltham AC, who had 24 finishers in the massive field of 882, with new boy Rob James the top finisher in 38th following the late withdrawal of leading runner Andy Whitworth.

Meltham’s leading lady was Penny Ditchfield, while prizes were collected by Pam Coombs, who was second in the Veterans 60 section, and club chairman Jeff Taylor, who was first Vet in the 70 class.
