THOMAS TRAVISS-POLLARD led the way as Holmfirth Harriers’ Under 15 side finished 10th at the prestigious English National Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill in London.

Traviss-Pollard had an excellent run in his first National to finish 32nd over 4.5km in a field of 398 in 16min 32sec.

Support came from Max Kaye (70th in 17-03), Tom Halton (121st in 17-42) and Max Lawton (195th in 18-25).

The race was won by Harvey Dixon of Aldershot, Farnham & District AC in 15-26.

Ruby Sykes was 195th in 15-09 in the Under 13 girls 3km event won by Northern champion Abbie Hetherington of Carlisle & Aspatria AC in 12-37.

In the senior ladies 8km event, Helen Berry once again led Holmfirth home, finishing 61st in 34-05.

She was backed up by Julia Johnson (245th in 39-18), Lesley Ewart (258th in 39-52), Barbara Hinchliffe (340th in 42-07) and Nathaitia Pineau (450th in 46-40).

The race was won by Hattie Dean, of Hallamshire Harriers, in 29-34.

The senior men’s 12km event attracted more than 1,500 starters and it was Alistair Langron who was first back for Holmfirth in 455th with a time of 49-11.

Club captain John Ewart ran strongly to finish 518th in 50-06 and team support came from Matthew Dewhirst (715th in 52-55), Kevin Yewlett (760th in 53-32), Chris Beadle (813th in 54-21), Rob Kersey (820th in 54-29), Brandon Holroyd (974th in 57-03), Damian Wilde (991st in 57-17), Dane Wilkins (1,346th in 65-57) and Steve White (1,391st in 69-31).

The race was won by Frank Tickner, of Wells City Harriers, in 38-02.
