LONGWOOD’S Andrew Pearson won the first of this season’s West Yorkshire Cross Country League meetings at Roils Head, in Halifax – despite doing a lap more than his rivals!

Having opened up a lead of over 300m, going into the final stretch, he was then misdirected by an official which resulted in the Longwood man going round again and finishing well down the field.

However, after a quick discussion among race officials, Pearson was rightly declared the winner.
