HUDDERSFIELD Rams head into their Aussie Rules UK League clash with Liverpool tomorrow buoyed by their first-ever win.

Danny Armitage led the way with four goals as Sheffield Thunder were beaten 83-59 in the fledgling side’s second match.

Karl Haigh and Kristian Dicks got two apiece and Neil Morrison, Matty Beaumont, Samuel Sheridan and Chris Cassidy also counted.

And man-of-the-match Haigh said: “We were buzzing afterwards.

“We’ve had a good training session this week and can’t wait to take on Liverpool.”

The Central Division is set up so one club plays host to all that day’s matches, with Birmingham doing the honours tomorrow.

The Rams are in action at 12.00, while Birmingham take on Sheffield at 2.00.

“It’s our longest trip of the fixture list, and it would be great if we could come back with another victory,” added Haigh.

“It wasn’t a flawless performance against Sheffield by any means – it took us too long to find our rhythm for a start – but we were pleased by our fitness levels and stamina and getting that all-important first win was fantastic.”

Huddersfield’s first host round is on Saturday, June 27. Liverpool play Birmingham at 12.00 at Lockwood Park before the Rams take on Leeds at 2.00.

The rugby union ground also stages Aussie action on July 18 and 25, after which the play-offs get under way.
