Ellis lands major title

Badminton: Huddersfield’s Marcus Ellis (pictured) is heading to the Bank of Scotland International Championships in Glasgow this weekend with another major title under his belt. The 20-year-old England player from Bolster Moor was victorious in the mixed doubles at the Norwegian International Championships with playing partner Heather Olver. Having taken the Belgian title in September, the pairing landed a second international crown thanks to a 21-19 21-17 win over fellow England duo Robin Middleton and Mariana Agathangelou. In the semi-finals, former Colne Valley High and New College student Ellis and Olver beat Indonesian pairing Tarun and Shruti Kurlan 23-21 21-19. Ellis – who is based at the National Badminton Centre in Milton Keynes – lost in the quarter-finals of the men’s doubles with Peter Mills in the tournament in Bygdohus near Oslo.
