ROYDS Hall C team managed to send out a full-strength side for the first time since January, and it paid off as they took all nine points from their match against visiting Phoenix B.

There were a few close rubbers, but overall Royds were too strong across the board.

Christian Brook and Roy Coldwell took Peter Goldthorpe and Les Newby to three sets before losing 21-17 in the third, while in the Ladies, Sue Jessop and Diane Horton, and then Horton and Sue Oldfield were all involved in three-setters before shutting out Phoenix.

And the second of the Mixed rubbers was also a keenly-fought affair with Newby and Horton being taken the distance by Maclolm Scott and Carole Moir before emerging the winners 21-17 in the third.

As the current badminton season draws to a close, preparations are in hand to start the Summer League, which has been running for the last couple of years.

Officials are inviting clubs who run through the summer to consider registering a side for the Summer League. Each team comprises two men and two ladies and the matches consist of two level games followed by two mixed. And the cost is £6 per team.

The uptake for the League is usually good, so interested teams are asked to register by March 29.
