THE final mixed was again decisive as Holmfirth E suffered their second successive 5-4 defeat in Division IV of the Huddersfield Badminton League.

This time Royds Hall C were the victors in another hard-fought match where fortunes swung one way then the other.

Holmfirth’s men battled to overcome a strong combination from Royds Hall and won all three games.

Arthur Whitworth and Mark Hague were playing up for Holmfirth due to injuries, and Whitworth’s experience as a long-standing player in the Huddersfield League made a valuable contribution as he won all his rubbers.

However, Royds Hall ladies reversed the scoreline despite some very close encounters, winning all three of their games.

So everything was to play for in the mixed, but the Royds Hall pairings of Ian Carpenter and Angela Branson and Les Newby and Susan Jessop came up with the goods to notch a valuable win for their club.
