VALLEY ST JAMES have proved unstoppable in the Huddersfield Badminton League.
The Almondbury club have been hugely successful and their teams have taken the title in the first three divisions!
Valley St James A have taken the league title yet again, although they were pushed all the way by Flying Feathers A.
It had looked close all season with Flying Feathers hot on their heels, but Flying Feathers’ final match had an unexpected result when they were beaten 5-4 by Kirkburton A.
Robert Sykes’ return following injury for most of the season was crucial, giving VSJ a clear 16 points from Flying Feathers.
The VSJ A team was Dennis Goodridge, Hadrian Clarke, Ron Mellor, Caroline Broadbent, Sue Leigh and Kim Stothard.
Division II was won by VSJ C, who had a comfortable lead all season and finished 30 points ahead of their nearest rivals Brighouse A.
The VSJ C squad was Andy Ward, Nik Parojec, Doug Fletcher and Austin Paul, Helen Fay, Jayne Walker, Jenny Kitchen and Becky Clifford.
Division III went to VSJ E, who were in front all season but, in the end, had only a two-point lead over Holmfirth C.
That was because VSJ unexpectedly lost their final match 5-4 to Fartown B, who conversely needed to win to avoid relegation and, in fact, did just that by a mere two points.
VSJ E’s team was Matthew Cummings, Jag Sodhi and Steve Bricklebank, Wendy Bok, Hayley Smith and Sheila Mellor.
Ossett won Division IV, St Cuthberts Racqueteers took Division V and Flying Feathers D landed Division VI.
The League annual meeting is on Wednesday, May 6 at Birchencliffe Cricket Club (8.00).
