JOHN BASTOW was on the ball for Meltham Conservative Club in their latest match in the Huddersfield Open Snooker League.

The minus 38 handicapper was up against Kirkburton Lib’s top man, Neil Armstrong, but made short work of him with breaks of 48 (the week’s highest) and another of 26 to win the frame 104-25.

However, Bastow’s win was the only one of the night for Meltham, as Kirkburton took the Section B match 3-1, thanks to victories for Billy Keenan, Peter Caine and T Murphy.

Trevor Liversidge had a 44 break as Golcar Con beat Broad Oak 3-1, Liversidge beating Julian Hodge 71-26.

The Snooker Handicap has still only reached the quarter-final stage, the close date for which is March 29.

The draw is: S James (owes 5) (Almondbury Con) v N Ewart (9) (Lower Hopton), A Harper (12) (Broad Oak BC) v W Baker (owes 14) (Golcar Con), M Harvey (11) (Syngenta) v C Dyson (1) (Top Spot), P Smith (22) (Golcar Con) v L Landa (owes 37) (Lindley WMC).
