BOROUGH of Kirklees swimming club ended their 30th anniversary year by announcing their ‘Swimmers Of The Year’ for the 2012 season.

Emily Robinson was awarded the 13 years and under girls trophy for her achievements, which included competing in three events at the National Age Group Championships and winning numerous medals at both regional and county level.

Hannah Pilling was awarded the trophy for the 14 years and over girls after competing at National Age Group level for the first time and making numerous finals at regional and county level. Pilling also broke a club record for the 400m individual medley – the record having stood since 1991.

The boys 14 years and under trophy was shared by Scott Lewis and William Thackray.

Both boys competed at the National Age Group championships and have had success at county and regional level, winning medals and making many finals.

Matthew Hinchliffe and Kyle Chisholm were jointly awarded the 15 years and over trophy as they have both had such a fantastic year.

Hinchliffe qualified for four events at the National Youth Championships, making the semi-final of the 200m backstroke and also won medals at both regional and county level.

Hinchliffe biggest achievement was to be selected to represent England in an international schools swimming gala against national teams from Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

Chisholm also competed nationally with great success, he competed in seven events reaching the semi-finals in many of them and made three national finals and also won numerous medals at regional and county level.

The Club awarded its Overall Outstanding Swimmer of the Year trophy to Hinchliffe for representing England – the pinnacle for any athlete in any sport.
