BEATING the wintry conditions was a victory in itself, but for Paul Sigsworth there was the reward of success at the Griffin Bowling Club 16.

Sigsworth was one of four reserves called up for the Griffin event, which went ahead only due to the hard work of volunteers clearing snow from the green.

It was far from plain sailing for Sigsworth, who was pushed to the limit in the last eight as he edged past Richard Brook 21-19.

The final turned out to be equally as tight with Mark Bramall in excellent form as he made Sigsworth sweat before succumbing 21-19.

For the Netherton Con bowler it was a rapid recovery after the disappointment of losing the Spen Victoria 32 held the previous day.

Sigsworth made his way to the final with a convincing 21-10 win over Mirfield Old Bank’s Brook, but he faced Longwood’s Danny Beeby in the final – who had notched a 21-15 semi-final win over Sheffield Millhouses’ Andy Mailer.

The final was again a tight affair with Beeby holding out for a 21-19 victory.
