HUDDERSFIELD Veterans had an excellent win in the final of the Hickson Trophy.

They defeated a strong Halifax side 218-195 to collect £200 in the final of the annual competition at Meltham.

Bernard Jones (a past President of the Veterans Association ) officiated at the presentation and congratulated Huddersfield on winning the Veterans Inter-district title for the eight successive time and on adding the Hickson.

As host Hickson district, he congratulated the Veterans Association sub committee for the way the competition had been organised, even with the disruption due to severe weather on the scheduled date of the one-day competition.

Despite a full calendar of bowling, remaining games were rearranged with the help and co-operation of Halifax and Spen Valley Districts.

Meltham S&SC were thanked for use of their facilities and very good green, and gratitude was expressed to Yorkshire Referees Association for providing the referee and measurers. After Halifax received the runners-up cheque for £100, Huddersfield captain Frank Greenwood was presented with the trophy.

Greenwood endorsed all Jones had said but added his own sincere thanks to the Huddersfield players and officials for their contributions in winning two major competitions this year.
