JOSH BROWN of Kirkheaton Con retained his Huddersfield Under 18 Merit title on a fantastic day of bowling at Broad Oak BC.

Brown defeated home bowler Rhys Beaumont 21-18 in the final after taking off Thomas Jones and Aiden Fox in the quarter-finals and semis.

Brown got well on top to defeat Jones 21-4 but then had to work a lot harder to record a 21-14 success against Fox.

Beaumont had earlier claimed a narrow 21-18 victory over Courtney Allert before defeating Yorkshire bowler Nathan Haigh 21-12.

The final was a very close-fought battle, with both players producing some excellent bowling, but in the end Brown’s gritty determination gave him the edge.

The highest break prize, sponsored by Harold Hick, went to Brown as well, while the Fair Play Award, sponsored by Broad Oak, went to Harry Lumb of Kirkheaton Con. Officials and volunteers from Broad Oak were thanked by officials of the Junior Association.
