MELTHAM are on top of the world after retaining the Huddersfield Ladies Bowling League title.

The talented team, packed with several Yorkshire County players, won Section A by a single point from Lockwood Con, who have also had a tremendous campaign.

The title was in the balance right until the final games with Meltham trailing by 23 points behind the front-runners with four matches to play.

And the destiny of the title was decided by two re-arranged matches in a week.

Meltham and rivals Lockwood were locked on 100 points, with Cowcliffe ready to capitalise on any slip-ups in third place with 98 points.

Meltham had a home tie against Almondbury Lib and won 9-1 which meant Lockwood, whose final match was against Cowcliffe A, would have to win 10-0 at home to become league winners.

Lockwood, who were looking to win the league for the first time, had an 8-2 victory which handed Meltham the title for a fourth consecutive year.
