YORKSHIRE county player Ashley Tattersley won the 59th Huddersfield and District Liberal League Merit, sponsored by Milnsbridge Liberal Club.

On an immaculately-prepared green by the president of Milnsbridge Lib, Kevin Brown, the players coped very well with a fast and tricky surface and Tattersley beat Mick Armitage 21-14 in the final to land the title for a third time.

Also winner in 2006 and 2007, Tattersley received a cheque for s120 and the Coronation cup from Liberal League secretary Geoff Martin, who thanked everyone at Milnsbridge Lib for their hospitality and organisation.

The 2009 winner Glenn OSullivan beat Clinton Hey 21- 8 in his first match, but 2010 winner Mark Atkinson failed to get through his first game losing 21-20 to Almondbury Libs Andrew Heaume.

Crosland Moor player Gary Siswick beat very vocally-supported homester Liam Fallas 21-20 in another thrilling first round game.

Tattersley beat teammate Michael Martin and Linthwaite CBC captain Gareth McMahon to progress smoothly to the final.
