ASHLEY DAYKIN won an epic final in the Colne Valley Bowling League Vic Sugden Handicap.

He defeated his Yorkshire colleague Paul Sigsworth 21-19 in a fantastic showpiece at Longwood BC.

Netherton’s Daykin saw a 9-2 lead turn into a 16-13 deficit before landing a decisive double at 19 across.

It was a first Vic Sugden success for Daykin against a three-times winner.

Daykin had to come from behind to beat John Ollerenshaw of Milnsbridge in the first round and then had a Titanic battle with the ageless Frank Greenwood (Golcar Lib) in the second.

In the semis, Daykin again had to recover from 14-6 and 17-11 down to beat Terry Brook of Crosland Moor.
