FERN BEAUMONT of Broad Oak made history when she won the Elland Junior Handicap.
The 12-year-old became the first ever girl winner of the event, which was sponsored by Joyce Shaw and Doreen Holden at Akroydon Victoria.
She claimed the trophy 21-11 with a fine performance against current county junior Liam Sykes (Brockholes).
In what was expected to be a tight final Sykes, receiving a +1 handicap, was first into his stride, playing a particularly difficult mark really well over the crown to reduce his handicap deficit of five and, eventually, the scores were tied at nine.
From this point on Beaumont, off a handicap of +6, took total command as she played a longer mark over the middle to lead with some excellent woods to establish a lead of 17-9.
After Sykes had scored a couple of singles, Beaumont finished off her opponent with a pair and two singles.
Her day had started with a very difficult tie against 11-year-old clubmate Mason Hill (Broad Oak), winning by the minimum margin of 21-20.
The second round game featured homester Amy Marsden (21-13) while in the semi-finals, Beaumont came up against another current junior county player David Ryding (Laurel Crescent).
Beaumont established a commanding 16-5 lead and won 21-19.
