IT’S the season finale at the Griffin Bowling Club on Sunday with their Champion of Champions competition.

As the name suggests, all the top winter winners are involved including Richard Brook (Mirfield Old Bank), who qualified by winning the ‘non-winners’ competition.

The Champion of Champions is sponsored by George Fellows of Slawit and Golcar Cars and play starts at 11.30. The prize fund is £410 with £130 to the winner.

Trevor Holmes and Ronnie Wormald will play off for the final place at 9am on Saturday.

The draw is (odds in brackets):

Ashley Daykin (9/2) v Eddie Haigh (14), Duncan Reeves (20) v David Walkden (8), Dave Fisher (10) v Peter Kain (7), Roger Crowther (10) v Richard Brook (10), Steven Hirst (5) v Wayne Dews (16), Mark Bramall (14) v Brian Morley (14), Paul Sigsworth (6/4) v Frank Greenwood (14), Trevor Holmes or Ronnie Wormald v David Scott (12).

The Champion of Champions will be followed by the Griffin annual meeting at the Junction (around 5pm). Annual memberships must be paid on or before that time.

In the non-winners event, Brook was 9-0 down to Garry Senior in the final before getting in to hit back.

It was nip and tuck to 17-17 before Brook got the breaks to win the £160 first prize.

President Alan Hirst thanked sponsors Schofield Metal Merchants, who were represented by Karen McGrath, club caterers Sarah and Robbie and Gary of the Junction for use of his facilities and food provided late on for members.

Officials and players alike praised Eddie Haigh for the superb state of the green.

There’s a first prize of £500 in the Bill Carter Memorial Trophy at Sowerby T&BC with the final being played on Sunday August 16 (1.00).

Qualifying is on Saturday mornings (two qualifiers per session) July 4 and 11 and August 1 and 8. Qualifying is 21-up, with the final 31-up. Total prizemoney is £1,550.

Entries at £20 should be sent to Keith Hatzer at 11 Ravenstone Drive, Greetland, Halifax. Ring 01422 376207 or 07775 965696.
