PAUL and Liam Sykes of Brockholes BC won the annual Floodlit Adult/Junior competition sponsored by PrintPod at Thongsbridge CBC.

It was one of the most amazing finals in the eight-year history of the event as Paul and Liam were well behind for almost all the match against Marcus Hill and Anton Haigh of Penistone BC.

At one stage, the Sykes’ were 15-6 down and then, towards the end, 19-12 behind.

But then the Brockholes pairing produced a run of nine to take the title.

This was after they had had the toughest of routes to the final, beating Craig Walsh and Thomas Holmes 21-17 in the quarter-finals and then Sam Price and Alex Wolfenden 21-19 in the semis.

Hill and Haigh won 21-13 against Joe Cranston and Gaz Lalley in the last eight and then 21-12 against Steven Haigh and Luke Peacock in the semis – and they looked well set in the final until the resilient duo from Brockholes took matters into their own hands.

The other quarter-final losers who each received £15 for qualifying were Rob and Jo Wiltshire and Barry Holland and Danny Marsland.
