IT WAS Happy New Year for Duncan Reeves at the Griffin Bowling Club.

A stalwart of the Colne Valley Club, Reeves not only won the £100 top prize in the Stuart J Richardson New Year’s Day Handicap but he followed up with victory in the following Sixteen.

Reeves thrived in the heavy conditions to land the Mark Richardson-sponsored first event of 2011, beating Roger Crowther 21-14 in the showpiece.

And in the Jack Dyson-backed Sixteen, he topped Steve Hirst 21-12 in the final after a titanic 21-20 success against Eddie Haigh in the semis.

Playing well all day to win the Richardson, he said he was delighted to take the trophy, especially as it was presented in memory of a founding member and president of the club – a major driving force at the Griffin and also in Huddersfield and Yorkshire bowling.
