ELLIS OWEN struck late to win a thrilling final of the Huddersfield Girls Under 18 Handicap.
In glorious conditions at Springwood BC, Owen was neck-and-neck with Chloe Ghaffar in the final until they stood at 20-20.
On the final end, Ghaffar laid up to a foot, only to see Owen connect with that wood and take the game.
It wasn’t the first time that previous winner Owen had staged a dramatic fightback. In her semi-final she played another previous champion, Aimee Holmes, and at one point was 17-4 down.
Incredibly, Owen battled back to take the match 21-19.
In the other semi, Ghaffar beat Lucy Hemmingway 21-11.
Thirteen girls took part and the organisers, who thanked Springwood for staging the event and Dennis Hawes for his sponsorship, believe they all did themselves and their clubs proud with the attitude and skills on the green.
