THE Huddersfield & District Veterans League are celebrating a new sponsorship deal.

They have reached a five-year agreement with Richard Pogson, of Lockwood Windows, who presented an initial cheque for £350 to Association president Frank Greenwood at Golcar Liberal Club.

Greenwood said: “On behalf of the Veterans Association management committee and all 1,200 members, I would like to thank the Pogson family for all their support.

“They have three family member sponsors in our year books, namely David of DP Plumbers, Alan of the Griffin Lodge and Richard of Lockwood Windows.

“In 2008 Jack Pearson ended their long association as our league as sponsor, and we are now delighted that Lockwood Windows, through Richard, have stepped in to fill the void.

“We are very grateful for this generous sponsorship and the commitment to extend the Lockwood Windows arrangement by Richard, and I know all our members are very appreciative.”

As if to mark the new sponsorship deal,Huddersfield Vets launched their Inter-district campaign with an excellent 35-21 win over West Riding.

The away team at Thornhill CBC performed really well on a very difficult green and kept the margin to just two with a 15-13 loss.

Both matches produced two outstanding individual results, John Shaw (away) and Dennis Hirst (home) scoring wins after being in single figures when their opponents were on 18 and 19 respectively.

Their determination and concentration was reflected throughout the teams.
