MELTHAM Ladies reached the final of the British Club Championship and finished a close second.

Winners at Todmorden were Wharton Con from Mid Cheshire who defeated Meltham 106-96 in the final.

Most of the Meltham team were part of the AJB Floorings line-up who took the title last year.

Four round-robin sections were played up to the semi-finals with Meltham beating Old Coventarians, Amesal (South Staffs) and Wrockwardinewood (Shropshire) before defeating Victoria (North Lancs and Fylde) in the semis.

The final was closely fought with four winners each.

Meltham players who contributed well in the earlier rounds were Suzanne Howarth, Marie Nicholson, Janet Senior and Irene Crowther.

Prizes were presented by Anne O’Loughlin, president of the British Crown Green Ladies Association.

The Joyce Winterbottom Memorial Ladies Competition will be held at Meltham on the July 4 (10.00 start).

A field of 64 bowlers (no homesters) will take part on both greens, it’s £5 to enter and competitors should contact Jacquie Roper on 01484 301101. The event is sponsored by Joyce’s son, Richard, of Talkative Ltd.
