MELTHAM’S PB Flooring ladies bowling team have transferred their local domination into national success.

Prolific winners of the Huddersfield Works League the PB Flooring team has gone on to win the British Ladies Crown Green Club Championship held at the Severnside and Old Shrewsbury bowling clubs.

After regional qualifying 16 teams contested the national finals and, in the round robin opening games, Meltham got off to a bad start with a defeat at the hands of Norley from Cheshire.

However, they bounced back with wins over Warwickshire club Haunchwood and Marehay, from Derbyshire, to reach the semi-finals.

Victory over Staffordshire club Dilhorne was achieved by 105-90 points with a 15-1 win by Jean Gee being decisive.

The final saw the Meltham side face Castletown from the Isle of Man and Andrea Buckley gave the Huddersfield outfit a flying start but their rivals clawed the score back to 72-71 before Hazel Rangeley held on in her match to ensure a two point victory.

The Huddersfield Ladies Bowling League’s Olive Parr pairs competition, to be played at Netherton and Farnley Tyas on Sunday, will start at 1pm and scratch time is 1.15pm.
