A CLEAN sweep in the singles helped Milnsbridge A win the Veterans Team Knockout.

They collected the £150 first prize with an easy 144-111 victory over Meltham A at Golcar Liberal Club, having only one loser.

In the process they completed the first leg of their ‘triple crown’ objective.

Tomorrow it’s the Bistro final against Waterloo at Elland and then they will target the league title – Milnsbridge lead.

In the Knockout sponsored by DJ Fletcher Sports Turf Contractors, Meltham picked up £80.

Score (Meltham names first) – Doubles: D Winterbottom and D Shaw 9 JD Wright and E Hewson 21, F Wrathall and D Brook 21 JD Haigh and D Hamilton 18, LG Swaine and J Kaye 14 T Barker and B Walsh 21. Waterloo B beat Milnsbridge B in the Subsidiary Team Knockout final at Elland CBC.

It was level pegging after the doubles and taking the handicap into account, but Waterloo outscored Milnsbridge in the singles and won 156-147.

Brian Woodhead, the Association President, invited Ken Atkinson to present the cup and prize money to Geoff Lunn, the Waterloo captain, and the runners-up prize to Trevor Bullas (Milnsbridge).
