NEWLY-formed New Mill B won the Sanderson Cup.

Spectators were treated to some excellent bowling at Thorpe Green, with the ladies of New Mill proving too good for Marsh Utd in the final when they won 163-132.

After the first four jacks, Marsh Utd were in front by a point and tension was building as it looked like being a close game, however the back four from New Mill stepped up a gear and they went on to claim the silverware.

Despite the loss, Marsh Utd’s Jean Gee was named Lady of the Match.

The four finalists were among the best in Huddersfield and, in the semi-finals, Marsh Utd defeated Mirfield BC 156-131 while New Mill B knocked out Lockwood Con A 177-128.

P Beever and M Battye won the Denby Dale Bowling Club Ladies Pairs Open Day final.

They scored a 21-15 victory over M Nicholson and K Gant.

Thirty one pairs took part and the event proved a huge success with some closely fought matches.

Nicholson and Gant defeated L Penny and M Cooper 21-8 in the semi-finals, while Beever and Battye defeated M Brook and J Kay 21-16.

The club thanked everyone who stayed on to support the finalists and create a terrific atmosphere.
