SCOTT FISHER won the Champion of Champions bowling title.

The county team member who won the Yorkshire Merit added Huddersfield’s big title at Almondbury BC when he defeated Mark Atkinson 21-17 in the rain-drenched showpiece.

While Morton House bowler Fisher – who plays for Moldgreen Con in the Subscription Cup – was the favourite at 9/2 to land the £200 top prize, Liberal League Merit winner Atkinson was a 20/1 shot and, after beating Spring Handicap winner Daniel Beeby 21-12 in the first round, he held his nerve to win two thrillers to reach the Armitage Leisure Services final.

In the last eight, Atkinson had a 21-20 success against Huddersfield Junior Merit winner Josh Brown and he was also taken to 20 in the semis, this time by Huddersfield Merit winner Jack Dyson.

Huddersfield Veterans proved the best of the bunch – again!

The Perrys Cars-sponsored team won the Yorkshire Inter-district League for a sixth successive year, adding the Grouse silverware to their Hickson Trophy.

It was the perfect way for away-team manager Bernard Jones to mark his retirement, the title being sealed with a 31-25 success in the final fixture against Wakefield.

Lower Hopton lost by a single chalk to Pudsey BC in a thrilling Yorkshire Cup final at Huddersfield RUFC, going down 222-221.

Some of Huddersfield’s best juniors helped Yorkshire Juniors win the County Championship.
