SCOTT FISHER beat the snow and his compatriots to win the latest Griffin Sixteen.

All the field joined the snow clearing operation so play was delayed for no more than 20 minutes.

Some members from outlying districts were unable to get to the venue, but Geoff Sigsworth travelled from Blackpool and played while David Scott, from Keighley, turned up simply to watch.

Fisher, in fact, played consistently to win the event, scoring a 21-16 victory against sponsor Peter Read in the showpiece.

Fisher said he was delighted to finally win a Griffin competition and happy to have won through against four really good bowlers.

He also thanked sponsor and final opponent Read, the members for clearing the green and Lesley and Mark Wood for providing excellent refreshments.

Read said he was glad to be ‘back in the frame’ again after a break from winter bowling of around four years.
