There's a bumper entry for the President’s Trophy bowling competition at Lockwood Conservative Club on Sunday, April 6.

The club event has been extended to women and juniors this year and has attracted a new sponsorship deal from Armitage Leisure Services, which will extend to 2015 as well.

A fundraising raffle will be held at the venue for MacMillan Cancer Support nurses and on the green, the competition will run from 11am through to early evening.

Entered for the Trophy – which will carry prize money for the top eight – are past Yorkshire county players Mick Cox, Eddie Haigh, Peter Kain and Wayne Moseley in addition to Robert Cox, who won the Conservative Merit last year.

Former Yorkshire, Huddersfield and Mirfield association bowling president Dougie Mellor is also taking part, while club members who are not regular bowlers have generous handicaps so that it’s a fair test for everyone.

“We are very grateful to Armitage Leisure Services for their generous support and, instead of our usual 20 or 30 competitors, we will have many more this time,” said Mellor.

“It’s a really good event and we would welcome as many spectators as possible down to watch and to make a day of it.”
