WHO are the best – flat green bowlers or crown green?

It’s a question to which Halifax Bowling Club hope to provide an exciting answer tomorrow.

That’s when the top two crown green players in the country – Gary Ellis and Graeme Wilson – will take on the leading flat green players Andy Thompson (the world indoor champion) and experienced Noel Burrows.

Ellis has been the Waterloo Autumn Champion three times, Waterloo Spring Champion, All England Champion, Champion of Champions twice and won over 100 tournaments.

Wilson has represented Yorkshire County over 80 times and has won the All England twice, Champion of Champions three times and the Spring Waterloo.

Thompson is three times world champion on the flat green and has 160 England appearances.

Burrows, one of the legends of crown green, switched to the flat game with a lot of success.

The players will play crown green in the morning and indoor in the afternoon. Admission free.

Practice for the crown green begins at 10.30am and the two singles games start at 11am.

After the crown green games there will be a forum and a lunch break when bowling enthusiasts can ask questions and chat.

The afternoon session will move into Halifax’s Indoor Rinks, when there will be two singles games of 11 ends. The first game is at 1.15pm, followed by the second game straight afterwards.
