HUDDERSFIELD bowlers figured prominently as Yorkshire Juniors started the defence of their county title with a superb win against North Midlands.

At Kirkheaton Cricket and Bowling Club, the home side had only one loser, Tom Lawrence, who gave a good account of himself against North Midlands man of the match, Harry Chapman.

Yorkshire won 245-98 in the home leg, with their man of the match, Ashley Southwell, winning 21-0.

Huddersfield girls champion Ellis Owen also had an easy win, beating Taylor Wildman to three.

It was harder for the away team, who had Finley Hickey (Lower Hopton) and Josh Mordue (Brighouse Sports) among their winners, but they still came away 223-196 winners for an overall score of Yorkshire 468 North Midlands 294.
