MAGNIFICENT Meltham ladies A team have had a double-double cause for celebration again this year.

The team have won both the Section A title and Sanderson Cup for a second consecutive season.

And it’s a third League title on the bounce for the team who have set a high benchmark in ladies’ bowling.

Marie Lockwood took over the captaincy this year from Jacquie Roper, and the success has continued to roll in.

She said: “We’ve enjoyed another incredible season in both in League and county events.

“We lost only one game all season, that was to Lockwood Con who beat us by just two points on the aggregate, and we’ve proved strong both home and away with four 10-0 wins and four 9-1 wins.”

Meltham were dominant in the League once again, amassing 127 points from 16 games to finish 26 points ahead of rivals Marsh United with Lockwood Con gaining third spot just one point ahead of Cowcliffe A.

Six Meltham players also formed the backbone of the 24-player Yorkshire squad.

On the individual front, Roper starred in Yorkshire’s successful defence of the annual Pennine match against Lancashire and Andrea Buckley won the Yorkshire Merit for the Hyman Morris Trophy which qualified her for the ladies’ Champion of Champions at Blackpool on Sunday.

Buckley also won the Ladies’ Works League Merit and along with several others, played a key part in AJB Floor Coverings’ sixth consecutive Ladies’ Works League title.

Suzanne Howarth and Hazel Rangeley won the Ravensthorpe Floodlight Pairs while club stalwart Edwina Tinsdale has, once again, given invaluable support throughout the campaign.
