CHRISTINE MIZON successfully defended her Ladies Afternoon Bowling League Drawn Doubles title.

Last year the Almondbury BC player won with Anne Jennings (Marsh Utd) and this year she scooped the crown with Susan Bruce, of Longwood, who each received six cut glass dishes.

The winners narrowly beat Marie Lockwood (Meltham) and Julia McDonald (Brockholes) 21-18 in the final hosted by Marsh Liberal Club.

First round: M Lever (Almondbury BC) and P McDonagh (Cowcliffe) 10 S Bruce (Longwood) and C Mizon (Almondbury BC) 21, J Armitage (Golcar Lib) and F Beaumont (Broad Oak) 21 S Ladbrooke (Marsh Utd) and M Phillips (Longwood) 14, M Lockwood (Meltham) and J McDonald (Brockholes) 21 S Gibson (Broad Oak) and S Shaw (Almondbury BC) 20, L Gledhill (Marsh Utd) and M Shaw (Almondbury BC) 21 M Tipple (Marsh Utd) and S Dillingham (Linthwaite Hall) 20.

Semi-finals: Bruce and Mizon 21 Armitage and Beaumont 9, Lockwood and McDonald 21 Gledhill and Shaw 19.

Final: Bruce and Mizon 21 Lockwood and McDonald 18.

The League’s annual presentation takes place at Paddock CBC on Wednesday, November 7 (2.00).

The cost is £3 per person including a buffet and entertainment.
