Moldgreen's John Metcalfe won the Huddersfield Champion of Champions title.

The 33-year-old Spring Handicap winner, who works at David Brown Engineering, picked up the £200 first prize from sponsors Armitage Leisure Services by beating Andy Cairns 21-13 in the final at Broad Oak.

A former winner of the Colne Valley Merit and the Conservative League’s Horace Walker Handicap, Metcalfe was playing in his second Champion of Champions final and hopes to use his two big wins of 2013 as a springboard for more success next summer.

Mark Atkinson was a very popular winner of the Huddersfield Merit and admitted: “That’s one of my ambitions ticked off.”

The 24-year-old from Crosland Moor – he’s been secretary of the village bowling club since he was 17 – defeated Kirkheaton Con’s Ashley Tattersley 21-13 in the final at Rastrick

Thongsbridge, meanwhile, were delighted to wrestle back the Slawit & Golcar Cars Huddersfield League title from arch rivals and 2012 champions Netherton Con.

Despite losing 9-7 to Netherton on the last day of the season, they hold the Subscription Cup for the third time in five years after finishing top of the standings.

Golcar Lib join the top tier next season after winning the Drayton Cup for the first time since 2002. Cleckheaton Sports and Clayton West BC join them in the promotion places.

George Fellows brought the curtain down on his sponsorship of the Slawit & Golcar Cars League after 12 successful years.

A presentation in appreciation of his support was made by Huddersfield & District Association President Steve Tattersall and it was announced that George’s successor at Slawit & Golcar Cars, Jeff Dunne, is to continue the sponsorship deal.

The Huddersfield Junior Bowling Association celebrated 20 years in existence and secretary Geoff Martin was honoured for his outstanding involvement over the last two decades.

Huddersfield’s best young bowlers produced some tremendous performances to help Yorkshire Juniors take the County Championship title once again.

The White Rose proved the best of British once more thanks to a 443-392 victory against Warwick & Worcester.

Newsome WMC staged the home leg and proved a happy hunting ground for Yorkshire as they triumphed by 50 points.

Jack Chesswas (Brockholes), Ashton Allert (Almondbury Lib), Nathan Haigh (Meltham), Ashley Battye (Almondbury Lib), Danny Teale (Kirkheaton Con), Harry Lumb (Kirkheaton Con), Fern Beaumont (Broad Oak), Thomas Gledhill (Kirkheaton Con) and Rhys Beaumont (Broad Oak) were in the home team while Chloe Ghaffer (Newsome WMC) and Josh Mordue (Brighouse Sp) were in the away team.

Yorkshire Ladies were also blessed with a strong Huddersfield contingent as they won back their County Championship title.

They beat North Shropshire at The Waterloo in Blackpool by 65 points to reclaim the crown they lost the previous campaign.
