WATERLOO BC'S Robert Mudd is the new Huddersfield Bowling Association's Scottish and Newcastle Spring Handicap champion.
The delighted Subscription Cup player, who picked up a £200 winner's cheque, beat Longwood's Paul Ingleby 21-16 in an excellently-staged final at Huddersfield RUFC BC.
Mudd, who had earlier accounted for Paul Sigsworth 21-20 in the semi-final, said: "I'm delighted to have come through such a top-class field and I always knew I had another final victory left in me!"
Mudd was always in front in the final but Ingleby kept battling back, striking the jack off several times and producing some fantastic woods to get back in, but his leading was never quite as tight as Muddy's which proved the difference.
At the last end Ingleby's lead was only six inches through (at the fast way as well which made it look even better) but Mudd replied with a toucher while Ingleby struck but missed.
