BRIAN MORLEY entered the latest Griffin 16 only as a reserve – but ended up winning!
A week of dry, sunny weather beforehand and a blustery wind on the day combined to make green conditions very tricky, but Morley handled them better than anyone.
He had a string of close-fought matches in the bowling event – sponsored by Sherie and Mark Wood – and the final was no different, but he eventually got the better of Ray Whitwam 21-19.
Morley was delighted to win his second 16 of the season and said he was looking forward to the Champion of Champions on April 12.
The draw for the Griffin 40th Anniversary competition, sponsored by Gerald Sykes, on Sunday (10.30) has been made.

Scott had beaten Danny Beeby 21-19 in the semis.
John Edmondson won the Champion of Champions at Milnsbridge BC with a 21-14 success in the final against Ashley Daykin.
Daykin had beaten Paul Sigsworth 21-19 in the semis, while Edmondson went through 21-16 against Paul Ingleby.
The event – organised by Mark Sykes and sponsored by Trevor Barker – was notable because 11-year-old Josh Mordue reached the quarter-finals. He was commended by everyone, measurers Brian Bailey and Roger Hallas were thanked, as were the bar staff.
