RESURGENT Longwood are making an impact at the top of the Slawit and Golcar Cars Huddersfield Bowling League.

The Dodlee Lane-based club, who had been level on 64 points with Moldgreen Con before the latest games, produced an emphatic 11-5 victory against mid-table Slaithwaite at Brockholes.

The result moved the team up to third in the top flight, just three points behind title-chasing Thongsbridge who beat Lindley Lib 12-4 at Albion BC.

And there’s no room for complacency from leaders Netherton Conservative Club.

Keith Midwood’s defending champions have a six-point lead from Thongsbridge, after they beat fourth-placed Moldgreen 12-4 at Lindley Lib.

Garry Senior’s outfit, who are making their mark on this season’s competition after promotion from the Drayton Cup as runners-up to Cleckheaton Sports last season, put up a plucky fight against county-star-laden Netherton, but they were just too strong in the end.

Lockwood Con had a good 12-4 win against Crosland Moor while also bagging some big points after 11-5 victories were Lower Hopton against basement club Meltham, Milnsbridge BC against Cleckheaton Sports and Almondbury Lib against Waterloo.

Cowcliffe Lib also took key points off potential relegation rivals Albion BC with a slender 9-7 victory.
